On March 15th, we hosted the first TY HealthSpan Invitational, a day of amateur hockey games and camaraderie before the Atlanta Gladiators game, to benefit the Atlanta Hockey Foundation.

One of the things that always stands out to me at events like this is the age range on the ice.

Some players are in their 20s.

Others are in their 60s… even their 70s.

Having been part of the Atlanta Amateur Hockey League for more than 20 years — and with my partner Fred playing in the league for many years as well — we’ve seen firsthand what it takes to keep playing the sport you love as you get older.

In fact, that’s one of the reasons we started TY HealthSpan.

Hockey players understand something most people eventually learn the hard way:

Fitness isn’t about looking athletic.
It’s about staying capable.

Skating demands a lot from the body — endurance, strength, balance, recovery, and oxygen efficiency. If you want to keep playing into your 50s, 60s, and beyond, you have to understand how your body is actually performing — not just how it feels on a good day.

That philosophy is at the core of what we do at TY.

Being a player, and watching players compete across decades of life is always a great reminder of what’s possible.
